Alien Breed 3: Descent is the final chapter in a complete re-envisioning of the 1991 Amiga classic Alien Breed. Part three of this amazing trilogy picks right up where Alien Breed 2: Assault left off by bringing down the complete destruction of the alien enemies and answering many questions that had been present in the first two installments. It’s time to fight your way through more aliens as the ghost ship is finally on its last leg and it is time for you to end this once and for all. How did Team17 finalize the Alien Breed saga and did it measure up to the previous two?

I think we will all agree when I say shooting aliens is fun; it’s one of the best ways to relieve tension, kill time and a good excuse to drink a few beers. But despite its appeal, inevitably it will get a little boring, repetitive and god damn frustrating at times.

Don’t worry Theodore J. Conrad, this is the final time you will have to don your glistening space suit of destruction, the constant back & forth between the gritty corridors of the universe’s most annoying space ship will soon be over and the truth behind the Breed will finally be revealed…you will never have to repair a broken door ever again.
I have really tried hard to enjoy this particular series of games, although now I think about it, I am not convinced there was anything there to love to begin with. I loved Alien Breed: Evolution, it was a well made remake with plenty of appeal, Alien Breed 2: Assault was pretty good too, it certainly kicked up the level of action and doubled the level of annoyance with relatively little to no new features. However, as the old saying goes, “third times the charm”.

When we last left our hero, Conrad, the second most badass engineer in space, he was standing waist-deep in alien guts on a derelict ship that was plummeting through the atmosphere of a dead iced planet. Mia, his cyborg colleague and friend, had been mentally possessed by the rampant intelligence, Dr. Klein, and it was only a matter of time before the ship was due to crash onto the frozen wasteland below. Things weren’t getting any better, but did we really expect them to?
Alien Breed 3: Descent is the final chapter in Team17’s remastered Alien Breed franchise which first found life on the Amiga system many years ago. Not all that much has changed from Alien Breed 2. The game still utilizes the Unreal 3 Engine and Team17 has once again shown mastery over the tech. Graphics are sharp and clear and the lighting and special effects create the dark, frightening atmosphere that one would expect from a sci-fi horror film.

Alien Breed 3: Descent, like Evolution and Assault, is an isometric shooter set on board a futuristic spacecraft. In each level the main character Conrad is given a series of tasks such as collecting key cards, restoring power to varies systems and clearing rooms of hazardous substances e.g. halon gas or excess water. All tasks must be completed before finding that level's exit in the form of an elevator. Standing in his way are a variety of aliens who will attack him, usually en masse. He can also suffer damage from explosions, fires, electrical disturbances and enemy turrets. Conrad can run and shoot in all directions, and can collect a number of different weapons and items to aid him. He can also purchase additional ammunition, items and upgrades from shops found at computer terminals which also function as save points. The camera angle can be rotated manually in 45 degree increments. Data pads are spread throughout the game which when collected, reveal information on the various alien species encountered throughout the game and provide back story's for the game's characters. The game features a "survival" mode in which players might survive for as long as they can against waves of aliens uses whatever weapons and items they can find around the area. This mode is available in single-player and co-op modes.
